A reflection from Austin
We are in this together
“It is the one night of the year when the invisible threads connecting our work
become visible.”
|
As we approach our annual Gala, I often find myself reflecting on why this
specific night means so much to me, both as the CEO of Metro Relief and as
someone who cares deeply about our mission of helping everyone find a home.
|
|
|
To the outside world, a gala looks like a beautiful evening of celebration, fine
dining, and attire. But to me, it represents something much deeper. It is the one
night of the year when the invisible threads connecting our work become visible.
When I look out at the room during the Gala, I do not just see a crowd. I see the
living, breathing engine of our mission. I see the faces of people who believe, as
I do, that change is possible. In our line of work, we spend every day facing
tough challenges and fighting uphill battles. Serving our unhoused neighbors is
vital work, but it can be exhausting.
The Gala is the moment we all get to pause, look at one another, and say, “We are
in this together.”
To me, the Gala means validation for our team, hope for the people we serve, and a
profound sense of gratitude for you. Every ticket purchased, every conversation
shared, and every dollar raised that night directly translates into people getting
off the streets in the coming year. It reminds me that we are never doing this
work alone.
Thank you for being the backbone of this organization. I look forward to sharing
this special night with you, celebrating how far we have come, and looking ahead
to the future we are building together.
With deepest gratitude,
Austin Bonds
CEO, Metro Relief

From awareness to action · November 15–21
Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week
Across the country, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week brings communities
together to learn, serve, give, advocate, and listen. The national effort began at
Villanova University in 1975 and now reaches more than 700 participating
locations. It reminds us that homelessness is not an abstract issue. It is
experienced by people with names, histories, gifts, families, and hopes.
At Metro Relief, awareness begins with seeing a neighbor rather than a label. The
path into homelessness is different for every person, and the path home is rarely
simple. That is why our Mobile Case Managers keep showing up—building trust,
helping replace identification, connecting people with treatment and housing
resources, and walking beside them for as long as the journey takes.
This November 15–21, choose one meaningful next step. Learn more. Listen to
someone with lived experience. Volunteer, give, or invite another person into the
work. Awareness matters most when it changes how we see our neighbors—and moves us
to act with dignity, compassion, and persistence.
